Andrea—rhymes with mitochondria” (powerhouse of the cell!)

Spaceworks would like to announce Andrea Michelbach as our new Development Coordinator. Andrea started an internship with Spaceworks in June 2015 where she got a crash course on the program, immediately memorized a thousand names/local businesses/organizations, and dove head first into summer events. As the Development Coordinator, Andrea has already begun sponsorship procurement, grant research, grant applications, database development, impact measurement, and more. We are honored to have her on the team!

Aside from a brief stint in Germany, Andrea has always called the Northwest home, living in Coeur d’Alene, Walla Walla, Seattle, and now (and so glad to be) Tacoma. She nerds out about single spaces after periods (once a copy editor, always a copy editor), data (collecting it, analyzing it, visualizing it, turning it into a superpower), and Washington state’s geology (Glacial Lake Missoula!).

When she’s not working or nerding, Andrea loves to compose a letter, drink a couple pots of tea, go antiquing, and hang out over good food and drinks with friends, her husband and her black cat, Norm (a real lush). She and her husband also enjoy camping, swimming in lakes, cooking, and listening to and playing music.

Andrea holds a bachelor’s degree from Walla Walla University in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and a master’s degree from the University of Washington in Museology with a specialization in Museum Evaluation. She has worked in consumer healthcare publishing and a variety of roles in museums, including visitor services, private events, education and communications. A long-time believer in art, culture and creative writing, she has volunteered at a commercial art gallery, served on the board of an historic house museum, helped shape a city-wide arts organization, and taught poetry lessons to high school students visiting an art exhibit. (You can read more about her background in her bio on our Spaceworks Staff page.)

Andrea can be reached at Spaceworks at andream@tacomachamber.org and out in the big world on Instagram (@andrea_mchlbch) and, less reliably, Twitter (@andrea_mchlbch).
