Spring 2020 Business Planning Cohort

Have a business idea or want to learn business strategy for your existing creative business? The Business Planning Cohort is for entrepreneurs who have an innovative/unique vision and want to be part of Tacoma’s local economic community. Participants of this cohort commit to a 36-hour course (3 hours per week in class) taken in person over 12 weeks. While in the cohort, entrepreneurs are provided with the tools, resources, and support they need to determine the feasibility of their small business or non-profit in Tacoma and develop a business strategy. Participants enjoy peer support and exchange while in the cohort, often forming a long lasting support network.

Cohorts are offered in the spring and fall each year. Applications are now open for the Fall 2020 Business Planning Cohort.

Applications are reviewed by a panel of business owners, coaches, alumni, and steering committee members who select up to 12 businesses for each cohort.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND APPLICATION

  • Quality of product or service as exhibited in the work sample
  • Feasibility of concept / business and Ingenuity and strength of concept / business
  • Ability to execute concept / business
  • Benefit to the community
  • Ability to create a destination-quality business with commitment to opening in Tacoma within the next two years
  • Financial need

Due to COVID-19, all programs will be held virtually via Zoom until regulations allow in person gatherings. Most of Spaceworks training sessions are located at the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber, which is located at 950 Pacific, Suite 300, Tacoma, WA, 98402. The office and meeting rooms on the third floor are serviced by an elevator and are wheelchair accessible. Restrooms are also on the third floor and are wheelchair accessible. Other events or programs may occur at businesses throughout the city.

Service animals are welcome.

Large print copies of training materials are available upon request.

American Sign Language interpreters are available upon request for any training or workshop. Please contact spaceworks@tacomachamber.org two weeks in advance to request an interpreter.
