Allies In Action is a brainchild from a whole school art project I began facilitating nine years ago, at Geiger Montessori, called the Ally Chain. The philosophy is to use art to teach core character qualities; respect, compassion, trust, honesty, courage, bravery, and love. It was wildly successful and had a significant impact on the culture and climate of the school. Afterwards, a student asked if we could have a club and the following fall Allies In Action was born.
Using experiential exercises, team building activities and art increase self-awareness, critical thinking and problem solving. Allies serves as stewards to the school and community. These critical life skills empower youth to be a part of the solution and have a direct impact on social, emotional wellness.
