Kristen T. Ramirez explores many media, including printmaking, drawing, painting, and public art. Her studio work often appropriates signs and symbols from advertising as a means of reflecting on how commerce affects our sense of place. Ramirez employs vibrant use of flat color, borrowing equally from the worlds of design and art.
For her Tacoma Spaceworks mural, Transmission, Ramirez relies on color and form to enhance the visual vocabulary of the bridge itself and Tacoma’s adjacent theater district. The hope was to create a kaleidoscope-like work that enlivens and humanizes the site.
