Write253, a free, non-profit community writing center for students ages 6-18, is an innovative program offering one-on-one tutoring, workshops, a drop-in writing room and creative publishing opportunities. Write253 was founded in the spring of 2012 by teachers, writers and friends who believe that creativity and literacy go hand in hand, who believe that all children deserve a rich and transformative education, and who are committed to making that happen by working with Tacoma students in high-poverty neighborhoods and schools. The Write253 creative engine is modeled after 826Valencia, a non-profit writing center founded by author and TED Prize-winner Dave Eggers, in San Francisco.
