Spaceworks Seeks Community Engagement Specialists for Hilltop Project

Spaceworks Tacoma is commissioning creative persons to engage Hilltop community members through pop-up outreach events. These opportunities will gather data and get feedback from the Hilltop community members that will guide the streetscape design elements of the Martin Luther King Jr. Way sidewalk area spanning from 6th Avenue to 19th Street. $2,000 stipend is available based on attendance and project completion.

We are looking for Community Engagement Specialists with unique approaches to engaging community members in public space. This opportunity is open to persons of all backgrounds who demonstrate an ability to utilize outreach strategies (temporary art installations, music, dancing, etc.) to spark creative thinking from the community.

Deadline: July 31, 2018

If accepted, participants will be asked to attend a training session to be familiarized with the Links to Opportunity project, learn about the outcomes and objectives of these community engagements projects, and begin to formulate project ideas. Two sessions will be held:

Saturday, August 4th, 11am – 4pm
Wednesday, August 8th, 5-9pm evening drop in session

About the Links to Opportunity Project

The Links to Opportunity Streetscape Project is engaging the community to help redesign the sidewalk and pedestrian areas along MLK Jr Way, Division Ave, and N 1st Street. The Streetscape Improvements Project is part of a City of Tacoma effort to improve social and economic opportunities in communities along the Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension corridor.

What’s a Streetscape? A streetscape is a design for the area between the curb of the street and the front of neighboring homes and businesses. Streetscape designs often include seating, lighting, landscaping, art, and more.
