“It’s inspired by Tacoma’s famous artistic gorilla Ivan, who lived in the B&I shopping center for 27 years, Ivan painted to help cope with the boredom of isolation in a cement cell. The message he is holding sums up what I wanted to say perfectly. “MAY ALL BEINGS BE HAPPY, PEACEFUL, AND LIBERATED.”
