Spaceworks NEON To Raise Money for Arts and Entrepreneurship Programs

TACOMA, Wash. – On June 8th, 2018 Spaceworks Tacoma will host their third annual fundraiser NEON, inviting the community to celebrate local creativity, grow support for local artists, and help more people build their dreams into dream jobs.

With a vision for thriving creative communities, Spaceworks has developed four programs to provide training and support for artists and creative entrepreneurs in Tacoma. Since 2010 Spaceworks has supported over 125 businesses through its Incubator and Coworking programs and nearly 250 art exhibitions, installations, and pop-ups through its Artscapes and Special Projects programs.

“Spaceworks bridges the gap between the knowing and doing for so many artists and small businesses in our community and gives them the skills and jump start they need to be successful for the long term.” – Jamie Brooks, Brooks Dental Studio owner, Spaceworks Donor.

This year, Spaceworks’ NEON fundraiser returns to the newly refurbished building of Alma Mater Tacoma: an artist-driven work, performance, and gathering space.

The NEON silent and live auctions will be hosted by fundraising auctioneer Laura Michalek, who generously donated a print by street artist Shepard Fairey from the auctioneer’s private collection as well as a stay at her chalet in Hood Canal. The remaining items in the auction were donated by Tacoma’s artists and small business owners who are excited to invest in growing creative economy. Some of the donations include artwork by Beautiful Angle, Asia Tail, Katlyn Hubner, and neon by Galen Turner to name a few.

As part of the fundraising games the guests can play Boozy Pop for a chance to win a variety of spirits including several choices from Gig Harbor’s Heritage Distilling Co., or buy mystery boxes from the Gritty City Sirens that hide valuable prizes. Echoing Spaceworks’ very first fundraiser in 2012, a Cakewalk will be an opportunity to win desserts from drag queens Dominique D’Amour and Delyla Dalyte. NEON will culminate with an outdoor dance party with DJ Olivia Phaze and local headliners Chromatography and Mirrorgloss.

NEON 2018 presenting sponsor is Unico Properties. This event is also possible thanks to sponsorships and donations from many local businesses and organizations including Shaub Properties, Minuteman Press, Nyhuis Creative, Alma Mater Tacoma and others.

Tickets are available through the event website www.spaceworksneon.com at $50 for general admission (doors open at 6:30pm) and $125 for VIPs. Those who wish to skip the auction can buy just a Dance Party ticket for $25 to enjoy the bands and dance the night away from 9 to 11 pm.
